Hello 3/8!

Now that I have access to the class blog, I shall give my two cents' worth of what I felt about the camp...

First of all, a big round of applause to all of you (in general) for your level of enthusiasm and participation during the camp. We were among the three classes (3/6, 3/7 and ourselves) nominated for the Best Class Award (which was ultimately won by 3/6, lead by the hyper Amin Iskandar!)

To have earned a nomination is, by itself, a job well done, but it also leaves us to reflect upon why we were not good enough to win it...

For me, the camp had a couple of high and low moments throughout and I shall share my thoughts below.

Low point 1 : Student reporting to school late (at 8am)
It is not the act of coming to school late that is disappointing! It was the blatant lack of effort in redeeming yourself which let me down...

Low point 2 : Lack of co-operation in many of the activities.
Students who cared did not offer a helping hand to those behind them during the Trek...
Boys who brutally ripped the stick out of the hands of girls during the Dog and Bone game... Students with the win-at-all cost mentality during the Indiana Jones activity...
Those who sat by idle while your classmates were busy tying up the raft... the least you could have done was to cheer your friends on (which some classes did!)
'nuff said!

Low point 3 : Lack of self-control by a select number of students.
Hurling of sarcastic remarks (even to the instructors), throwing of equipment when not being given the activity of choice, getting aggressive with fellow classmates over really minor incidences...
I guess at Sec 3, you are still in a period of metamorphosis... However you are real close to becoming an adult now, so try to start thinking and behaving like one?

High point 1 : Courage shown during the Night Walk
I must commend those who completed the Night Walk alone... some of you were probably afraid initially but wanted to prove that you could!
The desire to change the course of things is what gives courage to the ordinary to perform the extraordinary...

Hight point 2 : Never-say-die attitude during Rafting
I was praying hard that you guys did not give up completely even when it was obvious our raft could not work... Those of you who swam the distance to push the raft out and back again, you have my complete respect!

High point 3 : Campfire
Ok I'm being cynical here, but I was expecting a complete embarrassment for the Campfire item. I was told at around 4pm that you guys have yet to plan...

There are probably more nitty-gritty observations I made during the camp, but I shall not bore you further with my rambling. All in all, I believe the short duration of 3 days 2 nights was fruitful. And I am glad I managed to take part in some of the activities with the class... and I probably know more about each and everyone of you too!

As I have mentioned before, let's make the next 2 years in RS a really memorable one for all of us (provided I'm still with 3/8 for the duration). In unison, we shall complete our journey... so I appeal to everyone that you all will, from this point onwards, put your best foot forward and walk with me!
